In the latest instalment of our too-cool-for-school new series of interviews with Perth artists, we spend a minute with Sean Pollard of Split Seconds and ask him what’s going on?
Describe your music in five words or less.
We try not to suck.
What’s going on right now in the world of Split Seconds?
We’re about to launch our first EP at Amplifier Bar on the 12th. It’s been a long time coming so it’s good to know that people that aren’t related to me can hear it. The day after the launch we’re playing Crabfest in Mandurah at like 11am. We should be in pretty interesting shape by that point.
What are the worst and best gigs you’ve ever played?
Same gig. Wave Rock Weekender this year. Worst because we played immediately after the drawn grand final — massive anticlimax. Also we played as if we’d just spent three hours watching incredible football. Good if you’re At The Drive In. Bad if you’re a slightly poxy folk band. It was the best gig because the festival is amazing and as soon as we finished we were free to explore a billion year old rock.
Tell us something about your music that we might not know.
I start roughly 20 times more songs than I finish.
You’re putting together your perfect local gig? Who would you get to play and where? Feel free to include acts/djs/bands/venues that no longer exist.
Rechabites Hall. 1999. Early Eskimo Joe, Jebediah, The Sleepy Jackson and Turnstyle.
